Our Commitment to a Low-Carbon Future: Major Sustainability Projects Completed

At Uniplex (UK) Ltd, our commitment to reducing our environmental impact is central to how we operate. As a Sheffield-based manufacturer, repairer, and distributor of surgical instruments and medical devices, we recognise the responsibility we have to our customers, our community, and the wider healthcare sector to improve our sustainability performance continually.

We are pleased to announce the completion of three significant low-carbon projects across our Sheffield site, initiatives that not only improve our operational efficiency but also move us further along our journey toward Net-Zero.

Solar Power Upgrade: 32 High-Efficiency Panels Installed

We have expanded our renewable energy capability by installing 32 new high-output solar panels, increasing individual panel capacity from 280W to 460W, with a total capacity of over 14kW. This upgrade allows us to generate more clean electricity on-site and significantly reduces our reliance on grid power.

Fully Electric Heating & Cooling Across Production Areas

As part of our drive to eliminate fossil-fuel-based heating, we have transitioned our production areas from gas-based systems to fully electric air-conditioning and heating systems.

This modern, energy-efficient system provides better climate control throughout our facility, compatibility with the renewable energy we generate and reduced direct carbon emission. This change represents a major step forward in decarbonising our day-to-day operations.

Complete Replacement of Windows with Double Glazing

To further improve the energy performance of our buildings, we have replaced all windows across the site with high-performance double-glazed units. This upgrade enhances insulation and reduces heat loss, resulting in lower heating and cooling demand throughout the year.

Over 45 Tonnes of Carbon Saved

Combined, these three projects will deliver a reduction of more than 45 tonnes of CO₂, demonstrating the real-world impact of our ongoing sustainability programme.

This achievement builds on our existing environmental commitments, including our ISO 14001 certification, our published Carbon Reduction Plan, and our goal of reaching Net-Zero by 2045. Our recent Level 2 Evergreen Accreditation further reflects our progress and dedication to continuous improvement.

For our NHS customers, healthcare professionals, and industry partners, these investments reinforce our commitment to sustainable, responsible operations. Lower-carbon manufacturing and repair processes support greener supply chains and align with the increasing sustainability standards across the healthcare sector.

For our colleagues and community, these upgrades demonstrate our long-term investment in a cleaner, more efficient facility that benefits both our workforce and the local environment.

Looking Ahead

These projects are an important milestone, but they are not the end of our journey. We will continue to explore new opportunities to improve energy efficiency, increase renewable power generation, and reduce emissions across all areas of our business.
