Cutanplast is a range of sterile re-absorbable gelatin sponge haemostats, used during surgical procedures to stop unwanted bleeding. Cutanplast haemostats come in 10 easy-to-modify formats, suitable for a range of surgical disciplines.
Cutanplast produces a powerful haemostatic effect, generating haemostasis in 5 – 10 minutes and can absorb up to 50 times its own weight in blood. The porous surface of the gelatin induces the rapid rupture of the blood plaques with the consequent activation of the enzymatic cascade, which leads to natural coagulation. Cutanplast is a class III implantable product, which can be left in situ and is fully absorbed by the body, with a dissolution rate of 3-4 weeks.
The Cutanplast range of haemostats are highly biocompatible, reliable and effective. The gelatin sponge haemostats can be soaked in sterile physiological solution or with antibiotics. The haemostat range comes in 10 formats, but the products can be cut with sterile scissors to be shaped to suit the surgical requirement. Cutanplast is used in a wide range of surgical disciplines including General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Neuro Surgery and more.
Mascia Brunelli, established in 1947, manufacture Cutanplast in Milan, Italy. The organisation specialises in the manufacturing of products for surgery with Cutanplast and Cutanplast FAST featuring in their portfolio. Uniplex (UK) Ltd is the exclusive distributor of the Cutanplast product in the UK and the products are available through NHS Supply Chain or supplied direct.
Uniplex is an approved haemostat supplier to the NHS, with the Cutanplast gelatin sponge range of haemostats being available through the Wound Closure NHS Supply Chain Framework. Cutanplast can offer significant cost savings against the most commonly used gelatin sponge haemostat in the market, without compromising on quality or effectiveness.
